I created the Anchored to Wellness Journey because I've been there and I get it! I have had chronic gut symptoms and fatigue for many years. I had given so much of myself that my own cup wasn't full anymore. I had put myself on the back burner.
I would wake up feeling like I had never slept and have to literally drag myself out of bed to be able to go to work. I would come home after work completely depleted with nothing left for my family. I would sometimes need to nap after getting home from work just so I could maybe make it until bedtime. Only to get up and repeat the entire cycle.
I have dealt with chronic IBS for many years and always knew there was something deeper going on. When the brain fog set in, I knew I had to do something different. There was too much risk when taking into account my family history of dementia.
Once I "selfishly" started to put myself first, I slowly gained back my energy and worked to heal my gut. My mind became more focused and more alert.
Having gone through all of this myself, I have seen the difference between the optimal state of health versus the not so ideal state. If we learn to listen to our bodies and get in tune with it, we can then understand that there is a time to retreat and rest.
Once we start to listen, the body becomes more at ease and less resistant with itself and it's environment.
I have seen the limits of conventional medicine first hand- in today's medical system it is hard to treat the whole interconnected system of the body and mind.
The health affects everything from confidence and self-worth, to productivity and motivation. Our health determines if we show up fully in life and relationships.
I've tried countless diets, health fads, workout regimens, and supplements to try to feel better- only to experience temporary improvements that left me feeling defeated and hopeless when things just went back to the way they were before.
You can do all the right things, but unless you get to the root of the problem, it is not possible to make profound and lasting strides towards optimal health.
So I took a deep dive into learning about how the body works on a biological, physiological, and energetic level in an effort to heal myself and others. These are all things that are learned in first year medical school but then seemingly forgotten as the focus shifts to a diagnosis/medication approach.
Now I want to teach and empower others to do the same because when we feel our best, we are able to show up fully in all aspects of our life and have a profound impact on the world.
As a board certified osteopathic family physician, I felt a gap in certain approaches in traditional conventional medicine. I knew many of my patients were falling into this gap, especially women in their midlife that are experiencing chronic fatigue, joint pain, autoimmune illness, and brain fog.
I started searching for what could be missing and I found that in functional medicine. It allows me to dive deeper into the actual root cause to help gain wellness and not just trying to control a disease process. I was introduced to functional lab testing which is so powerful and gives physical proof to the why behind these issues.
